How to handle this???

I am new to a company and what we do is work with auditors and the State of California to get school districts and cities etc. up to date on the state mandates. Now my official title is web designer. But there is also a web developer who handles all of the back end coding and such. But before i came along she did all the designing work too. And it shows. She is really nice but the site needs updating. We dont interact much maybe because she feels there trying to replace her with someone younger (she is a classic coder, the down and dirty way no frills). Its not causing tension only because my manager hasnt approved any actual work yet in terms of the website but from what we can gather the lady is going to get upset. How do we avoid this?

Well, put your self in her shoe. If you come to know that your boss is trying to replace you and you may loose the job, your only source of income. What will you do?

Communicate with her and appriciate her to give her some confidence.
