Pear Packages

Ok, I downloaded the PEAR Manager on my website server / remote server. Now I have a folder called PEAR in my directory. All I want to do is learn how to use a package that I download from the PEAR website. They don't provide any documentation on their website about remote servers and how to use the PEAR manager with installing packages. What do I do with the package after I download it from pear.php.net?? Someone please help!!!
