Photoshop CS2 -Shape Layer Styles

When i create a shape layer, it comes in with layer styles from a previous shape layer and when I try to modify the style it modifies it for all shape layer styles. How can I turn this off?

Go to the toolbar across the top of the screen. You should see an option titled Style with a drop-menu. Select the white square with a red line through it for no layer styles. You can use this to remove styles to existing layers too, or switch off the eye next to the name of each styling element in the layers palette.
