Can anyone shed light on something which has puzzled me for over a year. I have a website, http://stainedglassphotography.com/, which is generally ranked somewhere in the top 10 for a keyword search on "stained glass". However, when I use the same keyword search but for images very rarely does Google pull up one of my images and (so far) never in the top 10 or 20. At first I thought that renaming the images to include the keywords might work and within the last couple or few weeks I have tried adding alt tags to at least some of the images but this has not (so far) made any difference. It is really quite amazing as the site has about 500 images of stained glass. If anyone can shed light I would be really grateful......

Have you left it for a few months since updating the alt tags and filenames? it takes a while for the googlebot to get around the world and index everything.

Dave, it's weeks not months since I made the changes. I know that the main engine is updated fairly frequently and it has either been updated or is in the process of being updated this past few days but perhaps the frequency is less for the image data-base. Do you, or does anyone else on the board, know whether it is filenames or alt tags or both which give most prominence to images in Google?

looking at the filenames in the results... I'd say filenames. But I would ofcourse be guessing.
