I have an image that is locked. I want to move it to a new template to create another image, but since it's locked, I can't. How do I unlock it?

how exactly is it locked? read only, or something else?

In the layers window there is a little lock icon on the right side of where the details of the image are displayed. I can do a hover over it and it says it's partially locked. When I look up how to unlock it, I just find ways to lock it.

I sometimes find that if the layer is named Background, the easiest way to unlock it is to rename the layer. You should then be able to click and drag to a new file.

The layer is named Index, but how do I rename it if I want to?

Normally, to unlock a layer, or a partially locked layer, you just look up at the top of the layers list and there will be something on the left that says Lock with 4 option to the right of it, and you can just click the lock off there.

To rename a layer, you can just double click the layer name and rename it.

Let us know if it works for you.

If a layer is named index, it means your working with a gif, in order to unlock the layer, select image->mode->RGB, that should lift index to a new layer named layer0 which will be unlocked
