Track Referrer To Non-Existing Page?

I have an old section on my website that is no longer on the server and none of my other pages link to them. The old pages are HTML files. Since removing these about 3 months ago I regularly receive "File does not exist" in my error log within cPanel.

I've checked the referrers within Awstats, Webalizer, and Latest Visitors but I can't see where these clicks are coming from; I assume from a cached version in a search engine. Is there a trick to finding where these clicks are coming from, or is it possible to put these pages back on the server with some type of script written into them that would track where the referrer is coming from to those particular pages?

Yeah even set up your 404 page to check the http_referer var and store it in a database if your that concerned.
