I am really a starter here and hope some of you experts might help with ideas. I want to make a web page header banner using my photo as image. How do I go about it? Which free software or tool is available for this as I have no cash to spend on it. Please tell me. Thank you.

Download "The G.I.M.P." (commonly called "The GIMP"), or "GIMPshop", both are open-source comparative rivals of "Photoshop" quality.
Google "The GIMP" and "GIMPshop" for details. Advantage of "GIMPshop" is that the interface is supposed to be more intuitive, more like "PhotoShop"..

My first 'banner images' I edited in believe it or not, "MS_Paint", which come standard with Windoze. Granted, these images weren't superlative but it worked well enough to render images and web-graphics for my needs. And it was easy to use. A little something to whet one's appetite to learn a more 'pro' graphics editor.

Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP) about some extra info on GIMP and here (http://www.gimp.org/downloads/) to download it

Good luck
