Flash Scripting Problem/Dilemma

My problem is how to go about setting up this flash file with regards to the movie clip remote I am wanting to implement. The "power" button raises the remote and pauses the maintimeline as well as any movieclips which may be active. You can hit "power" again to lower the remote but keep things paused. The "A" button resumes all timelines. What I need to program is the left and right "arrow" buttons to skip forward or backward to the previous or next slide, keeping things paused, and the remote needs to stay up until the "A" button is pressed to resume. I can't fathem how to set things up to accomplish what I've stated it has to do. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Have you done the scripting so far? That looks like some pretty good stuff!! That may be why some of us are shying away from the issue….?? But of course, I can only speak for myself.
I may pretend that I can offer a few suggestions sometime in the future. When you say “skip forward or backward to the previous or next slide”, how and where are those? So once the remote is up, you do not want the power button to lower it??.. only the A button?
Are the right and left arrow buttons on the cross shaped control? What about the + and – and home down at the bottom?
Pondering in Pomona…??
