What happens to posts that are older then 1 month (Or 30 days?)

Do they get archived or deleted based on a rule set?

Is this to speed up searches?

Nothing happens to them. They remain just as any other posts.

In my experience really old posts stop showing up in the forum they were posted in. The only way to find them is to search for them. But maybe I'm mistaken and/or something has been changed. That's just what I've experienced in the past.

If you go into the User CP and select Edit Options in the left column you'll get a page of options that include "Default Thread Age Cut Off" that will allow you set how far back you want threads to show. Options include:

Use Forum Default
Show threads from last day
Show threads from last 2 days
Show threads from last week
Show threads from last 10 days
Show threads from last 2 weeks
Show threads from last month
Show threads from last 45 days
Show threads from last 2 months
Show threads from last 75 days
Show threads from last 100 days
Show threads from last year
Show all threads
