I wanted to get Linux on to one of my computer. Here are specifications:
PowerPC G3 B&W
Mac OS 10.2.8
448 memory
300 mhz
----------------------------------
So I was wondering first if Linux could run on it or would I need to upgrade the computer.
My second question is can I install Linux on a Windows computer then put the hard drive with Linux on to my Mac computer. The Linux OS I plan on using is probably Ubuntu.

yes, it would run(the live CD's only requirement is 256 MB of ram, nothing else is required in terms of CPU power and such).
I've never had problems moving linux HDs around onto different computers, but since there's a PPC(power PC) install disk and a PC install disk I'd be doubtfull.
I would recomend the lightweight Xubuntu or Kubuntu over ubuntu for such a slow computer, but choice is yours.

Just remember to get the PPC version of whatever distribution of Linux you want. Don't make the mistake of trying to use an x86 or AMD64 type of version.
Okay so I got Kubuntu for PowerPC: Kubuntu 6.10 Dapper Drake.
I can boot the Linux OS off the CD but when I try to install it permanently the installation keeps freezing at 55%. I wrote the CD down at 16x speed so there shouldn't really be much problems or should I go down to 12x?

Slower speed might make this work. I recall reading something to this effect with installation distros (slower speed is more reliable, esp. on lower-end hardware).
If I can't make the CD work should I buy the Linux CD from a distributor?

If I can't make the CD work should I buy the Linux CD from a distributor? That is always an option, but effectively burning a bootable ISO image should parclusive. You are "creating an ISO image" and not trying to "copy to CD", -right? There IS a difference.
well that was exactly what i did. I downloaded the iso image and used my computer to burn the iso image not copy. i also found out that i needed a larger hard drive which i plan to buy in the near future so now im stuck with this one. thanks for the help whoever responded to my post.
