How often will google visite my sitemap?

My site have a sitemap file submitted to google. But I wonder how often google will visite my sitemap so I can update it accordingly.

I know that if you submit your sitemap to google webmaster tools, it downloads your sitemap every day. I don't know about sites that don't use this though.

that's because, generally, higher PR sites have more backlinks to them... so, the more backlinks you have, the more often google's spider is going to be pointed to your site...
