If you guys want to test out IE8, I just found the link.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/ie8/readiness/Install.htm

The ajaxian has a good post discussing all the new features/changes implemented in IE8 (http://ajaxian.com/archives/ie-8-better-ajax-css-dom-and-new-features). Apparantly there is an option to "browse as IE7", so if it overwrites IE7 you don't have to worry about it. I'm downloading now, I'll see if its standalone or if it upgrades IE7.

Of course it has to do it's lame "malicious software check". http://i28.tinypic.com/io2ayp.jpg. And it requires a damn restart.

Some neat features with IE8 now that I'm playing with it.

- Option to import bookmarks/settings from Firefox, Opera, even Safari

- Add-on manager similar to Firefox's (as well as search manager/activity manager) http://i30.tinypic.com/2hmpoqe.jpg

- Built-In Developer tools that obviously got their inspiration from Firebug. http://i32.tinypic.com/2jfdduo.jpg http://i27.tinypic.com/28lh09k.jpg

- Scripts that alter the window.location.hash (I have some) will create a new spot in your history button, making it easier for apps to save history states (this makes me happy).

- Scripts that alter the opacity of elements containing text no longer cause the text to look "anti-aliased" (again, I have some).

I've only been using it for ~5 min, but those are things I noticed immediately. If MS doesn't botch the release somehow and can successfully get people to upgrade to IE8 from both IE7 and IE6, it looks like we may finally be able to stop hating IE and focus on standards based development.

On four of my web sites, navigation is misplaced and/or doesn't work at all, which was a bug with IE7. Also, my sites with Google Maps, are HUGE. That's me just doing a quick scan of those sites. I'll be looking more later.

TJ111,
...so, is it standalone or does it upgrade IE7?

It upgrades IE7, but there is a button right on the toolbar that allows you to switch to IE7 rendering mode (although it does require you restart the browser). So you can continue testing IE7 compatability as well as IE8.
