Ive noticed some sites have urls like www.wheretostay.co.za/wc/gr/accommodation and http://www.news24.com/News24/Sport/Home/0,,2-9,00.html how does one create urls like this. Ive tried searching the forums and even google but cant find anything about it. What is this type of url called?

Which bit in particular are you meaning special?
You might want to look at mod rewrite.

I think they call it shortcut urls, so instead of www.mypage.com/country.php?id=1 it would be www.mypage.com/wc

Thanks TheRave, looks like mod rewrite was what i was looking for. There perhaps any other methods of doing this except mod rewrite?

Mod rewrite is used on Apache servers.
There is equivalent for other server architectures but I'm not sure what they are. Hopefully someone else who has used them can give you a heads up.
