Sitemap submission, robots etc.

Which tools do you guys here recommend to be used for submitting your website and its sitemap to search engines?

I've once seen someone use some kind of desktop application for doing this, but back then, I knew too little about the subject to be even bothered in the slight to ask what the tool was.

Well while you learn about the other submission methods, start with Google.
From Google home page, choose Business Solutions, then Webmaster Central. You will be asked to validate your ownership of the site by inserting some code. It also describes how to get your xml sitemap submitted and will eventually give a few stats on your site, sitemap URLs, etc.
At least a good place to start.

I came accross this site yesterday

Maybe I'll consider membership with these guys, unless otherwise you guys know of something better.
