Accessible DHTML

Does anyone know how to code an accessible dhtml filter to transition an image, so it fades in onto the page?

The key word being accessible. If you fade from a transparent image into your image, then your image doesn't display in anything other than IE...

Any ideas anyone?

Your best bet would probably be Flash... I don't think there is any other way of fading in all browsers.
