Hey,

I have a quick question about making a high-res pdf file in Illustrator. In the past all I've ever had to do was to create a "press quality" pdf file when I go to "Save as...". It has worked for many printers, magazines, etc.

Now I have to work with a new printer who says that the file is not 300dpi?? I really don't understand this since I've never had a problem with printers before. Am I supposed to change dpi somewhere??

Thanks!!

Allie

(I'm using CS3; not sure of your version)

When I create a new document, along with the page dimensions, it asks me the intended resolution.

BTW -- Actually, 300dpi is lowscale. I've had printers request 1200dpi.

I'm on CS3 too (on a MAC) ......though, when I go to create a new..I only get the size, rgb or cmyk, page orientation, height/width?

I always thought that if you choose press quality print that it would be fine. No one has ever complained before...

You might take a look here: http://www.tildefrugal.net/photo/dpi.php

It does allow you to set ppi at file creation. Or you can edit the current ppi by selecting Effect>Document Raster Effect Settings dialog.

Also, you can save the file as a .TIFF and then set the dpi, if you want to go that route.
