Anybody else having trouble with Firefox intermittently freezing up when logging into windows live hotmail? It doesn't happen 100% consistently, but more often than not on my first login, it freezes up and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL. Just wondering if it was only my computer or if other people had experienced this.
OS - Windows XP SP2
Browser - Firefox 2.0.0.12
It happens to me at least once a day.
It has to do with the script they are using to load it; it not being compatible with Firefox. There's not much on your end that you can do about it. If you disable the script, you can't get to the page. I have to use IE to access my mail.

Thank you KDLA for a reply. At least now I know it's not just my machine.

Windose Live gnaws! I hate it! and yes, -it often freezes Firefox and others...
Maybe you could try Pidgin (http://www.pidgin.im/)?(formerly Gaim) It has a pretty simple user interface and you can even have multiple accounts logged in at once. Personally, I use it for MSN, Yahoo, and GTalk. It works a treat!
Sorry, not trying to steal the thread or anything. Just an idea...

Firefox is a little bit RAM-intensive and I sometimes cause this fluke to occur: When starting Firefox and the browser begins to appear, minimize it to the startbar. Sometimes it 'jumps back up' to full-screen so just minimize it again until it stays down....
When Firefox is fully loaded, try to maximize it... it won't maximize! It stays minimized to the startbar and if you use Ctrl + Alt + Del to call-up processes, it says that a session of Firefox is currently running. You cannot (or, I cannot) get it to go full-screen (and thus, be useable). I have to 'end process' and re-launch it...
Firefox has done this for me for a few versions now... -is this a 'bug' or something maybe to do with my settings, etc.

I've had that problem before, Joel. However, I've found that it doesn't stay minimized, but that it's about a 1/2 window on the top left, under everything. You can't maximize that either.
I've always thought that it may have to do with the number of add-ons I had (at least a dozen and a couple of themes) with the "automatic updating" turned on.

I've always thought that it may have to do with the number of add-ons I had (at least a dozen and a couple of themes) with the "automatic updating" turned on. I have seen that too! A 'pop-under' Firefox window, about 200px or 300px square, upper left-hand corner, that won't maximize. I can 'close window', it does nothing and there is a 'floating' session over-top anyway...
And yes... I probably do have a slightly higher number of add-on extentions than necessary... Maybe not a dozen, but 'automatica updates' is "on" for me, too.
I have 736MB RAM so it should not be a problem. I do need to go 1-GB RAM eventually...
One of the things I don't like about Fx & the extensions is when you try to start the browser and an extension update is needed, a dialogue box opens asking where firefox.exe is on your system. You have to close that, click "Install Updates" on the Fx dialogue, then click "Continue" and nothing happens. It just sits there. Sometimes I have to exit out of that and restart the browser.

Now that doesn't happen on mine. Is Firefox installed as the default browser? If it isn't, then I'd suspect that it's just querying in case the installed location is somewhere other than in the default PROGRAMS folder..
I keep four or five browsers on my desktop, with Firefox as the default, but launching from Desktop any browser is of course, that one.
When I start Firefox and an update is found, a pop-over appears and asks if you want to install it now, or later. "Later" shuts the box and start-up proceeds per~normal. "Install now" installs the updates for extention etc., and when finsihed, you have to click "continue" which then resumes launching Firefox..
