I am doing an Open University Web Development course. Having done a course on JavaScript the next one in the series looks at server issues and uses ASP and VBScript, about which I know nothing.
Can anyone please recommend a book I might study to get a bit ahead with before the course starts on 1 May?

check out www.w3schools.com - they have a great set of tutorials on ASP and VBscript (as well as a host of other languages). You don't need to spend money on a book for these languages - they're pretty simple to learn online.
I'm actually surprised a college course is using ASP for a course on web development (instead of PHP or Python, or even .NET languages), but if that's the case then oh well... you just don't find too many web developers using ASP in professional settings. I use ASP on my own, but like I said it's not that advanced.

Thanks - there is quite a bit of feedback about the use of ASP - their answer is that it's a course on the principles, not a course in a specific language. The client side course I just did had a lot on accessibility, for example, while this one has a chunk on N-Tier architecture...

I'd suggest "Teach Yourself Active Server Pages 3.0 in 21 Days". This book saved my life! The book is published by SAMS and they have a whole line of Teach Yourself something in 21 Days.
