URL Status Checker

I am trying to speed of the processing of a huge list of urls that I need to review. They are currently saved in a db which outputs to a tool where I then review, make comments, etc. What I want to do is simply display the status or the url. Either as simple as a red/green for unavailable/available or the actual 404, 403, etc.

I had a cgi script but it doesnt seem to work on the current server configuration and I dont have the time to rebuild the whole thing.

Any thoughts or recommedations would be appreciated.
