Hi,
I am just getting started with video - here`s were I`m confused.
I am doing a test video with my digital camera and I need save it as a .avi file on my PC`s hard drive but quick time or media player grabs it first and saves it as a .mov.
How do stop these players grabbing my video and how do I save it as a .avi file.
Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks

how are you importing your video? i'll assume via firewire, but do you use a program like pinnicle, final cut pro, adobe premiere, etc...
ps - .avi files are HUGE - you need a decent amount of hard drive space for it

avi files are only huge depending on what created the file in the first place. especially in the case of a digital camera, there are possibly settings to ensure that the size can be toyed with. in the case of my camera, it produces 640x480 files at 30fps that when i tape for 30 minutes, the size is about 30 megs. thats not bad to me.
but to answer this guy's question, first, do you have the software that came with your camera installed on your computer? secondly, if you have a kodak digital camera, more than likely quicktime is the format that the videos are saved in when you record them. that may explain why quicktime grabs them -- it's the only software that can play them. i had a kodak and i hated it.
i assume that what's happening is you have "autoplay" enabled each time you connect that camera... if thats the case, try this... connect the camera. when whatever opens, just close it. open my computer and find the camera's memory. it will either show up as a drive letter, or as a camera itself (under winxp at least..)
once you find the camera's memory, right click it and go to properties. hopefully you will see an "autoplay" tab. (or it will be an event tab). check to see if these are automatically calling programs. hopefully here you can de-associate that. otherwise, i have no idea!

I think aaron is right. If you see it coming in as a .mov, most likely that was the format it was saved in (in the camera). Check your cam settings, maybe you can change formats, maybe not.
