hi, I need some software to stitch pictures together to give a 3d effect

Hi, I have seen 'virtual tours' on the web where the user can pan a camera round left , right, up and down, and zoom in and out, the camera always stays in the same place. What software is used to do this. I know that a few photos are 'stitched' together and then the software fills in the rest. Anyone know what software can do this, or is there a range of sofware that can do this,
