Rollover with an animated gif

I'm trying to create a rollover effect inside a cell, using css hover and background-image. This results in following: ie, opera and safari display the full animation on first hover and display only the last frame of gif on subsequent attempts, while firefox displays only the last frame of animation from the first hover on.
Am I missing something?
