I think i may have worded my question wrong. I am trying to make buttons in photoshop or fireworks for my dreaweaver website. I want to be able to place the buttons anywhere on the site. I was told I could do this by inserting a layer and then inserting my image(button) in that layer. In order for my button to not bring the color of the canvas with it into my dreamweaver site, i make the canvas (in fireworks/photoshop) transparent and save it as a png. That works fine if I insert it into dreamweaver without a layer. But when I insert it in a layer it turns the layer color into a grayish color. Could someone please tell me if I am doing something wrong here and how to correct it. Thanks.

Don't go by what your Dreamweaver design preview shows you. Go by what you see by posting the webpage and viewing it through a web browser.

Note: You need to save it as a transparent .GIF -- IE can't handle transparent .PNG without javascript help.

I tried saving it as a gif(tranparent) and that is not working.
