Gallery Question

I hope I have posted this in the right topic.

I really like this gallery: http://www.spearworks.com/portfolio_08/ more specifically how you "view" the image under the "identity" section at the bottom of the page

I am looking for a tutorial or code that can show me how to do that, where you click to enlarge but it keeps browsers on the same page but the image is enlarged and the site is still there but darkened.

Can anyone help?
