Hello!

I'm not really sure the best section to post this in, hence hoping someone may be able to best answer this:

I'm currently using a small bunch of computers at a public hotspot, but need them to stay connected to the hotspot all day, even if no-one's using them.

Unforutnately, at the moment it sems if there's no two way communication between the client PC, and the web server, in around 15 minutes, the hotspot (with a variety of providers) automatically logs the PC out.

We've tried viewing things like the BBC web cams, which automatically refresh every ten minutes or so.. however, I need some sort of script that will automatically run something every few minutes, in a two way communication (it seems).

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm familiar with html, might be able to program a Vista sidebar gadget, and have a server I can host some files on to do this potentially.. if someone can direct me to the best way to do this simply and safely, or if you know something else that already exists?

If it's the net connect that disconnects after inactivity... why not look for an old school program.

Google: dialup keep alive

that should take care of it, report back and we'll try something else if that doesn't work.

Have you tried using Firefox with an extension like Forcastfox that polls for weather info at a configurable rate?

That's great. I'll try the 'keep alive' thing going and see how it works out for a few hours. Thank you.

Unfortunately though, we're pretty much restricted with just explorer here.

It's worked :D

I've had it running all day on the various PCs here (automatically loading in a tabbed page when starting explorer or hitting the 'home' icon), and so far, all the PCs (as long as explorer hasn't been closed) are all staying connected!

Thank you! It's very much appreciated.
