Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Search engine submission
Hello everyone,
Im new here and was wondering if anyone can help me.
I'm ready to submit my site to the search engines.
There are programs out there like addweb that will submit my site to up to hundreds of search engines and directories for a some money.
Any feedback from forum members that have used either of the above, or similar, would be helpful.
Do they work and and on average how long does it take to reach a search engine and for the site tobe listed.
thanks for any help
regards.

Hi there, ignore such programs. Most of the hundreds of sites use someone elses search engine. Basically there are only 5 main search engines to consider, so only 5 submissions are necessary. The best way is to visit the sites individually read their submission requirements and decide whether you want a free or paid for service.
For specialised advice visit http://www.highrankings.com/forum/ and for submissions http://www.google.com/addurl.html
url@askjeeves.co.uk I will try to find the others since the search engine world changes fast and frequently.
Finally, don't pay too much attention to the keyword meta tag. It is little used now, content is everything.
thank you very much for your help that link is pretty helpful, your advice has been taken in!
cheers

Your response was extraordinarily quick :D Here's some more submission links. www.dmoz.org www.yahoo.com www.alltheweb.com . dmoz feeds to aol and msn and google so if its on there u have a chance of getting it on other engines. Note also it can take up to 6 weeks to be noticed and never submit twice or you could be penalised on some submissions. Also get some like-minded sites to link to you if yoou can. This will also improve your rankings.

I agree with manual submissions.
However i used Addweb Pro and it worked fine for me. I had the option to choose the cat to submit on DMOZ and YAHOO also others.
I think it's nice also .
However experts know more about that ;)

Hi,
Yes choosing the right keywords and linking your site is important. However, if you are in web design and you link to wine maker then that is not a good link.
You are better to link to one within your industry.

You can submit to DMOZ but you'll be faced by DMOZ Editors like myself that are human rather than machine thus we prefer humans to manually submit rather than robots.

Hi,
everyone knows how inportant it is to be found in Google. Google will bring in at least 1/3 of your visitors. Not only being found in google but being ranked highly in Google is inportant. One of my ecommerce sites gets around 500 visitors per day and i haven't spent a penny on marketing. The site has a google pagerank of 6/10 and ranks very high for most of the sites keywords.
You need to follow Robert Wellock's advice and submit your site to DMOZ. DMOZ are a feeder for google, get yourself included in DMOZ will get you in Google "without" actually submitting your site to google themselfs.
Search engine optomization is the key to sucess when marketing your site, look into some SEO techniques and apply them to your site. Use www.wordtracker.com (http://www.wordtracker.com) to carefully select your keywords for the search engines/directories that use keyword to rank.
Don't just submit your site to all the main search engines look for search engines that are only for your industry and submit to them.
Having links from other sites to your own site that are already included in google will get your site included in google within 2-3 months (approx.). Again researching SEO will show you how inportant backward links are.
Hope this helps
