on the portfolios page i have a rogue '<img' which is messing with everything

apart from that, its very tidy and easy to navigate site. i like it.

WOW!! I mean, -CLEAN page, valid code (that is never an accident!), views the same for IE7 as for Fx, easy-to-read, good colors, -lots of white space (not crowded). I love that flowerpot icon top-right.. with the behind-glow of white... it really pulls the eye towards it and creates a focal point without over-doing it, it feeds feelings of excitement.
Very (and I shudder to say it!) 'WEB 2.0'.

And those spare blades of grass peeking over the bottom of the footer at the center-bottom of the page...Not one blade of grass too many and not blade of grass too few. It's almost Zen! Brilliant!
