See, however, http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/. Incognito 09-24-2003, 03:17 PM I know I want it to be professional and eye catching as well. PeOfEo 09-24-2003, 04:06 PM This is going to require time and work. Dont expect to be able to make a really awesome site in 30 minuits. I hate people who go into webdesign with attitudes like they can get something done real fast and then have everyone look at it and go ooo ahhhh. My suggestion would be make a website for a group, club, church etc where people will actually use it, give you feed back, and they will be your traffic testing right there. spufi 09-24-2003, 06:37 PM If you don't know what to put on it then it seems kind of silly to already have a web site for it. To have it look professional, at least have your pages validated and save the eye catching graphic and whatnot until later. The best eye catching stuff to put on a site is content, which you obviously are sorely lacking at this point. I've seen some pretty crappy design wise blogs that get a bunch of hits based simply on the quality of content. PeOfEo 09-24-2003, 08:56 PM content does come first. You want to deliever the content in a manner that is catching to the eye but have content to delivier is my version of what spufi said :) Ribeyed 09-25-2003, 02:19 PM hi, hmm... i have split opinions on this one. Most of the time when i am interviewing clients wanting a web site they don't know what content they want only that they want to advertise their services. So sometimes when i have to develop sites i have to come up with a design without any content. Sure i have a fair idea, obviously the content will be about the company and the services/products they offer. I like most developers have a box standard layout/design/content that they use to start of with. When i am selling sites to clients i suggest, homepage, contact Us page with company details, site map and services page. Content for these pages you can fill yourself. I would start a design with basically no content, come up with a design and then when the content is available fit it into the design. I don't se any harm in this what so ever ;) However i do agree with the opinions of the other forum members, if the site is for yourself then you need to have some content first. I have been professionally developing e-commerce sites for over 3 years now but i still don't have my own site  I don't have much content to put on my own site and i don't need it to market myself i have other sites i have developed doing that for me;) Ofcourse content is the major part of any website but remember you don't need a books worth of content. Research has shown that only 25% of a normal A4 (UK) paper worth of text should be on 1 page. Hopes this helps Jordan 09-25-2003, 06:05 PM Hi, After customers finding you on the web, design is the most important factor. Potential cutomers must be impressed with what they see and only then will they want to learn more about your products or services. Design is also an art. I always plan thoroughly both with the customer and researching before I sketch out the design. Poor planning is why a lot of designs fail to impress. see: www.designers-4-web.com  PeOfEo 09-25-2003, 06:13 PM If there is no information on your site but it has a cool layout it defeats the purpose. The site has to say something, that is afterall the purpose of a website. Thats why the website was invented, as a conveiniant way to exchange information. Jordan 09-25-2003, 06:55 PM hi, if you take time to read tehn you will see that www.designers-4-web.com has some very basic info such as what is ecommerce? and what is hosting? It also has a portfolio that shows some recent work like the Phone market and Bed Zone. www.designers-4-web.com spufi 09-25-2003, 09:20 PM Originally posted by Jordan Hi, After customers finding you on the web, design is the most important factor.
