Developing a Blog vs using Wordpress

I would say I'm knowledgeable and capable enough to create my own blog from scratch but wondered if you guys think using a wordpress one would be better. I would create the css for the wordpress blog, but i wondered if it is unprofessional for a web developer to just use a stock blog.

In general it's unprofessional for a developer to build something that is already available. Now if it's a learning exercise that's a different thing.
