i have a feeling this is the start of a long journey to implement this. However....
how is it possible to put tags into a webpage when you make a simple text post?
I think it is our duty to design smart - and not to succumb to templates, open-cms, joomla etc.
Any ideas?

It depends on the tags you want to end up with. If you want the user to add HTML content sans a local HTML editor then the best tack it something like Tiny-MCE or FCK. Then you don't have to roll your own markup language or guess at what the user intended.

ray,
the tagging will only be done by me. so if i make a post on my website....how do i organise it with tags....
then if you dag the post it as that 'label'
is it something to do with a rel="tag"

When I think "organizational tags" I primarily think of divs, headings and lists. But to tell the truth I can't understand most of that last post.

You're referring to automatic tags, right? That is, your tags are automatically chosen based upon the content you create? I don't know of anything that will do that, nor do I have any idea how you might create such a system yourself. However, I don't really see any benefit in the concept of tagging itself. The ability of someone to memorize something comes from the content. For example, if an article's heading is "Firefox 3.0 - The AwesomeBar", and the content of the article is written more about wishing that every browser had such a feature and how it might be implemented than Firefox 3.0's AwesomeBar, I wouldn't remember that it was about Firefox 3.0's AwesomeBar. I'd remember it as "Every Browser Needs an AwesomeBar".
Staying on-topic is just one good way to increase the chances of a better memory about your content, but it is probably one of the most important things to keep in mind, if it isn't THE most important.
My suggestion is to add your own tags manually. I'm sure there exists a content management system (CMS) or a CMS plugin that can assist you. Unfortunately, I don't use any CMS, so I can't help you with that.
