Does anyone know a way around a background color appearing in a png image on IE 6? go to http://www2.ccboe.com/smallwood/ to see what I am talking about. The General Smallwood graphic looks great on IE7, Firefox and Safari, but I am having a problem with IE6. Excuse the mess on the site. It's still very much in development.
- I posted this under the general section without even seeing this graphics forum. Hopefully someone in here can help me out.

that graphic is a GIF. But if you want to use PNG graphic I believe it should be exported as a PNG-8 format for older browsers.

Thanks everyone for taking a look. Immediately after I posted I changed it to a gif and found a tutorial online that would allow me to duplicate the effect of a drop shadow. I felt that was easier than trying to get a png image to work on all browsers. For some reason, some of my gif images create an outline, almost like a stroke, that looks very choppy. I'm not sure how to avoid this when saving.

When you "save for web" to png-8, there is a Matte option that defaults to white. Select that matte box and chose the matte color to match your background to avoid the white outline.

My problem is that it's over a gradient background. I've never been able to find a way around that.

Your only option is to pick a matte colour that best represents the gradient.
