Hey guys i like quick loading sites, tell me how fast its loading for you. i think there are only 2 40kb+ images

anyways i am having troubles with IE table heights.

If i have table heights at 100% and the td height is 100% as well then all TD heights match up to the biggest heights in firefox

BUT this is not the case in IE ?? in ie td height maintain their own height? why?

It's quite an ugly website and takes ages to load, must be a slow server or Internet connection - was still loading after 5 minutes.

Sorry I thought you were after a review. If you wanted me to just tell you it looks good and I love it then what's the point? Sorry if I insulted you but it wasn't my intention.

To enhance on my review:

There are too many colours, there's no "design". I know it's a forum but forums can still be easy to read and navigate. Create a colour scheme, there are plenty of websites out there that give you colours that suit, try one of them.

I don't like the hover effect on the main navigation, the black with the dark drop shadow just makes it hard to read. Plus it all doesn't seem to line up correctly.

The code doesn't validate (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fimpressionz.ath.cx%2Fmy_playgrounds%2Findex.php&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0) with 183 errors.

What is the purpose of the website? I've looked at it for 10 minutes now and I still don't know what it is about, why it's there, why should I join?

166 images, over 2.5 minutes to load @56KBS... site is way-huge. Much could be consolidated, images re-used (cached images propagate faster than http-request for another, new image), and 200-maybe http-requests...

I don't understand the purpose of the site either not that this even matters, but at the speed it took to load I would have 'backed out' long before it resolved anyway.
Eight-to-ten seconds at 56-kbs is about the patience threshold before visitor attrite themselves. I use T-1 speed and would have become impatient & would have left had I found this. :o

where did you get 166 images???

there must be ONLY 20 images of 10kb or less, and 2 of over 40kb

there are few sections and are they the slow down?? i tried a proxy as welll the load time is no more than 10 sec

yeah i am having trouble with focus of the site but is a news portal for expats :D
How do i focus??

and there is a color scheme, green/black, orange/black and blue/black LOL

and it a visual site if you go into the flickr section LOL

if you have T1 you would not have even noticed the speed. good thing i put the flash player into its own link LOL

This page is still seriously slow... :(

expat
06-05-2008, 10:44 PM
its wierd, its more a DNS/redirecting slowness rather than a server speed issue, coz when it comes the page is fully developed.

i tested it on html tidy thingie in Firefox and i get 37 warnings but no errors, so i dunno where the spacer images are detected in the above tests....

WebJoel

Don't be fooled that a 'warning' is superfluous. Sometimes, a 'warning' can be a page-busting as a bona~fide 'error' as far as TIDY reports.

I do note though that the 'time lag' does in fact seem unrelated to the size of the page, as the T-1 load-time states under 11-seconds but I have T-1-speed and it takes a minutes & one-half... something is going on here..

if u noticed there are 3 ads on there, even if the page isnt FULLY sent, as long as the "content" is shown thats what matters ;)

Why did you give one link in your first post but it re-directs to another link?

because the small url links to a long url and tiny urls are better even if it slow

Oh, i am playing around with SEO and tiny URLs but they are the same page

Sloooowwwww. Way to slow. I'm on dial-up and I'd never wait for this site to load. After 3 minutes of the page still loading, I clicked off. This is not a user-friendly site, and keep in mind that you will have competition.

expat

dialup wow !! the CSS is 30kb by itself and the JS is similar

this page will ALWAYS be loading for the rotation of banners, so once the main page is loaded you are away

stacywacy
06-21-2008, 02:17 AM
Yep. There are still those of us that use dial-up. In fact, I heard there are many. :D

wireless is 128kps so web designers should still optimise but dialups shouldnt visit fully multimedia sites ;)

Sure, but think about it this way. Is your content so unique that I can only find it on your site, or do you want/need as many regular visitors as possible? This is the Do I need you more than you need me scenario, especially if you are a business. Doesn't matter to me, my options are virtually limitless; I move on to the next site/business that is user-friendly ;). It doesn't happen often though, as most are acceptable to those on dial-up, as it should be; it's the same rationality for optimizing sites for every browser.

Once again, I repeat my original question ....

expat
07-14-2008, 12:47 PM
because as a community forum there are many shorter URLs leading to it....

and sometimes i may use SEO to change the URLs themselves, i am just playing around

whats your concern?? all roads lead to rome LOL

its not leading u to pron or scam is it LOL

LeeU

My concern is that we are honest in these forums and when you ask someone to look at a page, you should give the URL to that page; otherwise, it looks a bit suspicious. You asked for a review of your site, not to "play around".

i think u have been on the net long enough to know that the system is about direction and redirection from IP, DNS, to FURL, tiny URL to SEO.

IF when when u find the content objectionable, then u can complain. The underlying technology should be transparent but there is no reliable rewrite for IIS sorry

You missed what I said. You asked us to review your site and you gave a URL to something else that redirected to it. This is not about SEO or anything else. It's about wanting a review. By redirection, that builds traffic to a site we are not looking at, hence, on this forum that is deceptive. We're not here to build traffic to your site. That's a blatant violation of the agreement you signed when you joined the forum. Yes, I can complain because you weren't honest in your original question and part of my job is to keep this forum honest.
