I started this website a little less than a year ago. I'm a beginner as you can tell when you visit my site. I have changed my website several times from the advice from other forums. I must have missed something because I still have very little traffic. I don't know if it is my design or my SEO. Any help someone could provide would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance!
My site is http://youmouthoff.com

well your website looks good enough but you need to promote your site and not just wait for the traffic. submit it to free directories is a common example.

Thank You for your review! Any suggestions on what directories?

Thank You for your review. I have to agree with you. I have tried several different layouts with less content on the main page but it seemed no one was willing to go further than the main page and that is one reason for putting so much, trying to get interest in the site. Yesterday I believe I made the site look worse. I'm guessing if someone wants to read or view the news and make comments they are going to go to a site like CNN or MSN. What are your thoughts?

Extremely slow to load, and this is what will/would keep me from visiting your site as a regular user. I think I took a nap and woke up and it was still loading :p. I'm on dial-up, btw.
From first glance, of what content did load, I cannot tell exactly what the site is about based on what's on the homepage, but I'm assuming it lets users post opinions on various news stories. You're right about one thing: this concept is something people will be able to do on legitimate news sites like CNN or the Washington Post's website and others like them. So, I'm left wondering what is unique about what your site, which is not reputable, and what does it have to offer compared to the others? Why would I spend time waiting for your site to load then posting a comment which is something I can do at a legitimate news site? I think you need something completely innovative for your site in order for it to compete with the more established ones.
Another thing is the clashing colors between the red hover links and the blue background color; this color scheme is awful for the eyes. This is just a partial review of the design from what content did load before I clicked off.

stacywacy,
I sorry to hear you are on dial up. I used to get very frustrated too using dial up. Unfortunately it is slow because of the java scripts I have embedded. I know the site will never make it big, I'm doing it to stay busy and I have found it to be pretty fun learning all the different things you can create.
I took everyone's advice and made a new home page from scratch and took out some of the java, but I still afraid it will still load slow if you are using dial up. Let me know if this looks good and I will convert the rest of the site to look like my home page. Thanks

Nah, dial-up is fine. It saves a lot of money while in grad school. It's just the few sites that don't optimize for it. :D
Good luck with the site, though. :)

it much cost the same to maintain dialup as it does for adsl....there not enough competition to drive the prices down?

Not sure what adsl is, but dial-up is a cheap as it comes for me. That's all I'm willing to pay on a graduate school budget. I mean, besides buying all those shoes and xbox 360 games...I selectively splurge....:D
