hi, I'm not a developer but I'm building web sites anyway, I'm trying to understand how another site has been constructed, but when I try and save the html page using "save target as..." I can't save the page I selected, I always get the index page of the site.

Can anyone tell me how to capture the following page:

http://www.inkjet-printer-cartridges.us/lexmark-x83-04-04.html

it's the lexmark-x83-04-04.html page that I'm interested in.

This has got me puzzled!!

Where did you get the address from? The site redirects to another address entirely, no matter what part of that address I try to use...

This page came up in a search for inkjets on msn and google, I was interested in looking at the code to see why it had done fairly well in the ranking.

I look at lots of pages to try and learn, this is the 1st time I've been defeated!.

unfortunatley that is not the right page, this is the index file of the site, not the page that I'm wanting to look at, please see the 1st post for details.

This page would not rank in the search engines for inkjet cartridges.

But, could you tell me specifically what sucks about this page anyway

This is in reguard to you asking what sucks about the index:Its just a popup and a redirect. There is nothing special about it. Furthermore it has no doctype speicified and several other problems with it.

This is in reguard to the other page:You can't use save target as in this situation because you would be saving the code for the redirect. So once on the lexmark page right click and hit view source. That will give you the source code

This automatically throws the browser into quirks mode. Also, considering the pages of quite short, there are numerous other error, such as align in the <p> tag, the horrid <font> tag, etc...

Just want to let those who helped that I've cracked the problem.

The solution is to find the page in google then, if the page is cached, do a "save target as'' on the cached page.

If you do that you see a pretty clever trick is being played that must work very fast so you can never see the source page.

Ok, a couple of things. The source for http://www.inkjet-printer-cartridges.us/lexmark-x83-04-04.html is indeed what I posted above. The code that you posted is just what google saved, as it crawled that page. anyway, just to round this off, here is the bit of code on all the pages in this site that makes viewing the source file difficult, I'd be interested in any comments on this, is this better than using a redirect?

Umm... What exactly do you think that that code would help with?? That simple piece of code that you just posted has a name: JavaScript redirect. Besides the fact that it just throws out the 13% (http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2003/May/javas.php) of users that have JS disabled, it is also useless. You could just do a meta redirect, which wouldn't require JS... Congrats on finding this "GREAT"( :rolleyes: ) piece of code.

Oh, BTW, you probably could have gotten the page out of your catche, thus saving you this "great" search for such a "superior" piece of code...

I did mention at the start that I'm not a developer and a novice......

I'm actually reverse engineering affiliate sites to work out how they are getting good SE rankings, which is going well so far

what I need is the best, safest, SE friendly url redirect code...

maybe you can demonstate your greatness by posting such code!
