Does anyone have any pointers they can share on blending photos together in photoshop? I followed two different tutorials: one online, and one in my photoshop layers guide. They both said to paste one photo on part of the other, create a layer mask for that layer, select the black and white gradient tool, and drag over the layer mask. For some reason, it never works for me; the edge of the photo on top keeps sticking out like a sore thumb.

Play about with the gradient settings and you'll soon have your desired effect.

You mean stuff like the opacity?

If you click on where the gradient is displayed on the top left corner you can edit various settings this should help you get a better look from this effect. Also when applying the gradient you can change where you start it from and how long your line is to acheive the effect you want

I usually use a soft brush while working within the mask, it gives a lot more control I find.
