getting email address

Hi again:
Is there a code to find out when someone visits your site and get their email address. I have visited some sites and didn't now leave me email address and I got email from them. How does it work? Is it legal?

If it was legal, then why would some web-sites ask you to leave your e-mail address if they could just take it? I don't know of any way in which you could aquire a users e-mail address, other than perhaps a virus that "reports back" to the web-site, what it finds on your PC.
