Next week, I have to go to a college for a seminar and I have prepared a CD of my presentation to distribute it among the audience, I am planning to take the help of a company for CD duplication. Tell me, will there be a difference in quality? I have heard that replication gives a better quality?

Well, here is the actual definition of the two:

CD replication: Manufacturing CDs and CD-ROMs by stamping blank plastic discs from a metal die that contains the predefined pit pattern (binary pattern).

CD duplication: Creating CDs and CD-ROMs by writing blank CD-R discs in a CD-R drive on a personal computer or by using a CD duplicator.

As you can see one is making an exact copy, not a duplicate. It's like when they press vinyl records. Duplication is just making a copy. It would depend on the presentation but generally the duplication should be just fine. However, there is a very slight chance it may not work in someone's CD player. The odds are slim but if it's important that it always plays, then do the replication.

I guess that I had not realized that a CD-burner is not really physically 'burning' the disk as the disk image being re-writable, but instead is 'tanning' the special dye in the disk, making it 'readable' with data or music, etc. When re-formated or erased, it become useable again... Makes me feel alittle less secure storing super-important files on CD-RW disks. Could be more prone to sunlight damage, etc. than other forms of archive.
I don't know... 'magnetic media' (like a 'tape drive') is still touted a stronger archive.

Your decision of CD Duplication is perfectly right as the number you are targeting won’t be very high, at the most in hundreds.

Best of luck for your presentation

Personally I don't think you can go past hard drives. They are cheap now days for the size you get, and keep for ages. Back up to HDD, wrap it in bubble wrap and store it in the cupboard.

Also I have heard that flash media lasts longer than hard drives... Maybe just using a USB flash drive is the best method?
