Hi there,

I recently created a template for a site and created individual html pages from the template. Everything worked fine.

I then uploaded the template folder and all the pages using Leech FTP software. I use this FTP all the time.

Again everything worked fine when i checked the site online.

But for some reason when i opened up the template in dreamweaver to edit the template and apply the changes to all html pages, when it comes to saving and updating all files, it doesn't do it!!!!

I'm now in a position where i need to manually update every html page whereas before i could update the template and every file would update automatically.

Do i have broken links as a result of uploading using leech? Is their a rule where you should only upload using dreamweavers FTP when dealing with templates?

I don't know what to do - I'm designing this site for a someone and i don't want to have to update the site manually everytime!!!

Is there a way to fix the problem?

I am finding the same thing...particularly with rollovers on pages I store in subfolders. The only way around it I found is to put ALL folders in the root folder which sucks because some sites have 75 or more pages. It is time consuming and unprofessional

Adobe is suggesting it is because I had left over remnants from an earlier version on my computer. However I have removed them and the problem is the same.

I had used Image REady in the past to write the html and it does a big 6-line version of rollovers. If I delete that code and change it to the simpler DW swap image 2-liner it is a quick fix.

Sorry I cannot be of more help...but then neither are they!!

No worries Sharon, thanks for the input

I was told by a friend that your not supposed to upload the template only the html files. Maybe that's where i went wrong? I honestly don't know.

..your friend is wrong...I always upload my templates and I have never had this problem before CS3. What version are you using?

Not sure what version i'm using.

But my friend was actualy correct, well in this circumstance anyway...I deleted my templates folder from my server and my site still worked. I still had the broken links problem but it still ran as normal.

Anyway i managed to solve my problem. I uploaded all my html pages and again left out the templates folder - you don't need that, well i don't.

I've saved your site will check it out later. Thanks.

You can visit my site at http://www.forbescreatives.com

It's still a work in progress as i'm seriously thinking of designing my own website in place of forbes creatives. I basically bought a ready made template and manipulated it.

But since designing a site for this chap.... http://www.timwescott.com (Still currently in progress)

...I'm pretty excited about doing more especially since i've come to master the template feature. Well not master but i'm much more confident now.

Anyway have a look at my work...it's mostly digital work at the moment but i hope to get into doing more paintings soon!

..it is always nice to be humbled.

I am going to try to remove the template and see what happens!

I really like your site.
