Trouble inserting web site counter!

This is crazy! I have done this before, but now I'm having no luck inserting a site counter into my web site. All I receive is the usual "small box with the red x". I have tried many things but now I'm drawing a blank. Feel free to tell me what Information you may need to try to help me correct this problem.

without a link to your site I couldnt even start to help you...

Next I should point out if you have a decent stats reporting with your hosting you shouldn't bother with a counter on your site.
