I almost thought I wrote this article. From ArsTechnica (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080819-mozilla-drags-ie-into-the-future-with-canvas-element-plugin.html)Most browser implementors are quick to adopt emerging Internet technologies, but Microsoft can't or won't make Internet Explorer a modern web browser. Despite some positive steps in the right direction, Internet Explorer still lacks many important features. Its mediocrity has arguably hampered the evolution of the web and forced many site designers to depend on suboptimal proprietary solutions.
So anyway:
IE's shortcomings won't hold back the Internet for much longer, however, because Mozilla plans to drag IE into the next generation of open web technologies without Microsoft's help.

I like this kind of IE bashing, it's really positive and tries to actually change the status quo. I really hope they succeed.

The only thing that will drag IE into the future is $$$$$. Until you convince MS that there is some financial gain to be accrued by becoming fully CSS3/HTML5 compliant, they will continue to put the vast majority of their money into marketing and acquisitions, and continue to put probably something less than 0.01% of their total operating budget into IE development (and that may be optimistic. )

Lured less by financial gain than avoidance of financial loss, people need to stop buying/using those products that do no meet their needs. VISTA has been declared a mistake, but they are probably going to try to fix it instead of just burying it and try something else, -some that works.
This can even extend to Wal-Mart's dubious flirtation this past summer with computers that have pre-installed Linux on them. -I bet that this had execs. at M$ shaking in their boots! If I were in the market for a new computer, this is what I would want if available!
Great article, btw

Hey! I live in Mississippi! We have nothing to do with IE's lack of progress!
