Does double nameserver configuration for a domain have any effect?

I've recently changed the nameservers for a domain, but I'm wondering, the domain configuration on the old namservers for this domain are still there, do I need to ask the people behind the old nameservers to remove their configuration or does it not matter?

Or in other words, nameserver configuration for this domain is currently set at two places, the old nameservers and the new nameservers, but the domain is only using the new nameservers (which can be seen by using whois). Does this double configuration have any effect?

I've contacted the people behind the old nameservers and asked them to remove their configuration for this domain, they have not replied yet, I'm not sure if I should push them a bit because I don't know if it really matters, yet, therefor I'm asking this question here.

Once all the DNS are updated to point to the new nameservers nothing will reach the old nameservers looking for the hosting.

You delete the references to the site on the old nameservers by cancelling that hosting.
