improving google ranking or improving traffic using "other domains"

hey all,

i was think aloud the other and thought about this and wondered if it work and/or is allowed.

for example

if i had a domain where my main site is held ( the one i want more traffic to)

and then i purchased other domains with some of the keywords in the domain name

such as:

my domain name: somethingrandom.com ( site has pc as keyword)

new domain name: somePCthing.com

so if my new domain name linked to the orginal domain name such as a frame fowarder or auto redirect script

would this help boost traffic and hopefully get more traffic from search engines?

or is it a waste of time and i am so far of the track i am in space?
