Hi all

Recently, I have been offered a job to do Javascript and XSL for streaming Quicktime video over mobile phone networks, and create websites that use ActiveX to play the videos. While they know my experience in Javascript/XSL/ActiveX is very basic, I would like to buy a book to start learning Javascript before starting the job - which book(s), tutorials or online resources would you recommend?

Thanks very much for your help in advance

Piers

You can find the official online reference manual here:

http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/communicator/jsref/

Alternatively, there are loads of tutorials listed on Google, just pick one that suits you:

http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Programming/Languages/JavaScript/Tutorials/?il=1

I'm afraid I can't recommend any one in particular though.

You should read the Sams Teach Yourself in 21 days books. There is a book on JavaScript. If you want to learn quickly, you should read a Sams Teach Yourself in 24 hours.

Excellent all very helpful stuff - will look thru all URL's and print out lots of stuff. Also will buy a couple O'Reilly books.

Gokou: The reason why I won't buy books from HTMLGoodies.com is that I live in the UK ;)

No, we don't, because HTMLGoodies has been notoriously known for incomplete or incorrect information.

No book or any other tutorial will ever be better than the official docs.
