I wish to download some video music files from YouTube.
Could anyone suggest the best free download software to do this as I also want then to be downloaded as .wmv and .mpeg4 files.
I've seen a few different ones but any suggestions as to which is the most reliable download software and to play through Windows Media Player.
I wish to avoid getting adware, spyware or viruses.
All help much appreciated

First point: Make sure your not doing anything illegal, that means you either own the right to the music, or it's for public use(creative commons, public domain, whatever).
I'd use the fast video downloader for firefox, that gives you flash video format, but it's a trusted source, from there I'd convert it using VLC media player. VLC is open source, so no viruses there, and free.

Sounds like good advice from scragar. But remember, when you watch a YouTube video, it's already been downloaded into you temp Internet cache. To verify that, empty your cache, go watch a YouTube video, then check the cache. It'll be that big, 5 to 10 MB file with some crazy long name and some unknown file type. That's just YouTube's way of discouraging people from keeping the file.
Just rename that file, give it the .flv file extension, copy it to whatever folder, and there you go!
Keep on Truckin'
