I know nothing about javascript except its not java. I haven't touched anything to do with anything but I keep getting errors when I access commercial sites which have links like

javascript:parent.addTo Basket[125266.'H','BG']

I think the common factor is javascript that refers to something with [] brackets in it.

Can I reintall whatever translates javascript? I have just updated to IE 6 and it has made no difference. I just don't know where to start with this. I am even contemplating scrapped the lot, formatting the disc and starting from scratch.... I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Thanks
Duncan

Either you:
* are going to websites with poorly written Javascript code (they are quite common, unfortunately);
* have your browser's security level set too high and it's causing scripts to not function properly;
* have a security or privacy program installed on your computer that is preventing some Javascript from executing properly;
* your Javascript is turned off.

Or a combinational of some of the above things! I don't think the problem is a bad Javascript engine (it's possible, but highly unlikely.)

Can you give us an example of a specific web page that causes you problems?

Hi Dimitri,

Thanks for offering to give a hand. One specific site that doesn't work for me is that of hmv.co.uk I was trying to buy a CD and I clicking on the "add to basket" button just gave me an error on page. I've copied and pasted the URL below if you wish to check it

http://www.hmv.co.uk/servlet/HMVApp/SimpleSearch.SimpleSearch/search?searchString=sophie%20ellis%20bextor&optionVal=1&sessionID=432937145853351661156637&m1=H&m2=BG&bskct=0&source=

If the URL doesn't work, I went to HMV, searched for ellis bextor to get to the page that doesn't work for me. I have Norton anti virus running. Would that affect it?

Again,
thanks for your help
Duncan

That page is riddled with Javascript errors (for is their search engine). It's not your Norton Anti virus program. It's whoever coded that website!

No worries; your Javascript is fine.

Cheers.
