New IE

Hey guys, has any one heard about this new IE????

I heard few things about it,It seems so be a pain in the neck...If any one has a resource please post it here..

I could not get it working when I installed it. I tried to install that about 2 days ago and when I tried to run it, it said such and such dll was not found or something, ho hum.

Yeah..I downloaded the Beta version and it woked okay for a couple of days but then it started slowing things down..sometimes pages wouldn't load completely..had missing graphics when the same sites had loaded fine in IE5....so I uninstalled IE6..I am happier now.

Dragon, get mozilla firebird :) www.mozilla.org It is nice, It handles the code like a dream, there are only a few things I dont like about mozilla, one is that it does not work sometimes for drop down menus with dhtml but most sites have a backup menu or the top of the menu is a link to a page with a menu on it etc... The only browser I really use is firebird, I used to use mozilla regular, but firebird looks nicer. Thats the only thing I base my switch on :D

Yet another compelling reason to not use IE..:-).

Thats allots of changes in my opinion,MS IE developers will be busy making changes for quite some time I guess.

So those of us who design for mozilla to start with but dumb it down for ie will not have to do much fixing for this? I would look at my pages in it but... I am too lazy to get this thing working

Well IE is my browser of choice and not much could sway me from using it... As unpopular as what I'm going to say I can't stand NS... a discussion not for this thread thou!

I am using Windows 98 Second edition....maybe if I actually bought the program then I'd have better luck I suppose.

I like ie proprietary codes pete but when I am doing my little css thign I have to do twice as much work to get it all together in ie! Ie is pretty decent except for its css, but that is enough to make me really dislike it because thats all I use for layout these days (well hybrid layouts)

Haha! I might give it credit if it wasn't basically an IE spin off of Mozilla. ;)

Proprietary code is a bad thing on the web. When more and more we are pushing for web standards, proprietary code should be junked.

...just one mans opinion.

some of them are very logical, I called it propriety code lol, I meant proprietary. Anyways the overflow-x , y stuff is wonderful, that only gives you more control and the scroll bars are very nice if tastefully done.

Well, Netscape was discontinued this year and Mozilla Firebird can do anything MyIE2 can do with regards to XPI extensions in a much more efficient manner and it still hasn't reached version 1.0 because it is a beta browser.

As for the M$ IE 6.0+ vapourware for January 2004 I shall not support that browser, it is a complete joke just because M$ infringes several patents. M$ has other companies bending over backwards to provide hideous clumsy hacks to make the browser work.

You forget that ms is a buisness and also that the w3c is not the governing body on the internet. The w3 seems to act more like an advisory counsil these days and it is the major browsers that really govern the internet. The w3c can say certain things but there is nothing that says that browsers need to comply. Though I dislike how ie handles code I like ms as a corperation and the wolrd of buisness is dog eat dog.

Where did the W3C enter the topic unless you were referring to http://www.w3.org/TR/patent-practice perhaps I missed something it is quite true Technical Recommendations aren't Specifications (I can only assume you were not refering to my post).

Though in either case I won't compromise an: 'application/xhtml+xml' served document for whenever (if ever) M$ decides to support that mime type just so the liveware has to do extra work because of a patent infringement.
