i have the web page saved as an ASP file but when I go on the web to check it out it pops up a download box. any suggestions? is there another step to using ASP

Sounds like your server probably don't support ASP...

on your pc?
which windows do u have?
by defalt its being installe into c:\inetpub\wwwroot
look for that folder on every drive u have
if u dont have i then u for sure dont have asp :)
