So I have a VPS and I've got it up and running pretty well with a lot of basic features (lamp, svn, etc) by installing each through the command line. I've accomplished all this by googling, the kindness of others, and a lot of luck. I'd love to get a better understanding of what I'm doing and how it effects other things.

Short story, are there any good books out there for installing/configuring/maintaining a generic-linux (in my case Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) webserver?

have you actually checked the resources available at ubuntu.com??

ubuntu isn't very generic as it is Debian, there are a few things unique to setting up debian/ubuntu servers but there is lots of docunentation.

....and try "googling" the terms "ubuntu linux server book"
... it will return several options for ebooks and print material.

good luck!

legendx, Debian GNU/Linux - Best Linux Server is the best book for Debian server ... I do not know for ubuntu, but you can use this book for ubuntu too.
