Matrix stats

hi guys,

i really want matrix stats on my new dedicated web server, but i heard that it was built into hardware... i really liked the way it worked with the sessions etc rather than the dire one i have atm..

i am also using Google analytic but i find it kind of unreliable as its an external source. an example was i have images from my site on the BBC website which is updated regularly but Google analytic doesn't record that. does anyone have any suggestions for any decent server side statics programs free or even if it was cheapish :)
