I have been outsourcing my page designs for some time now, and am wondering if I am paying too much. I am thinking of possibly hiring a part/full time graphic artist, and am weighing out the options.

I am horrible at thinking of design, but have a good eye for it, and am very proficient with Photshop and the like. Generally the designer will give me one or two .psd files, with the design finished, and I go about tweaking it a bit, and the slicing and dicing for the HTML portion.

So here are the two questions:

What is normal for a small company that puts out around 2-5 sites a month? Outsource, or P/T internal?

*If this is against forum policy, ignore, but since its about what to pay people, not what WE charge, I hope its okay.*

What is the normal rate per job (if outsourced) and avg. hourly (if internal P/T) that designers usually get?

Hopefully someone will have some insight on this. Check the portfolio for some of my nicer looking sites, and you will see the quality I am trying to achieve on every project.

TIA!

Can I ask what type of graphics you are getting designed? Myself, I have been trying to outsource for years some graphic design but people seem to be very limited to basic shapes geometric type design. They can be complex but still limited to putting together squares and circles. You ask for anything outside they box they are lost.

I guess what kind of graphics you are getting depends on price I would myself pay.

...What is the normal rate per job (if outsourced) and avg. hourly (if internal P/T) that designers usually get?... Sorry, -You are "asking price" and any answer violates forum policy as interpretive of collusion/price-fixing ("...so & so over on WD said X-$ per unit" etc.) Must close this thread.
